I found myself looking at my life and my household the other day, reflecting on how long I’ve been operating in pure survival mode. For years, this podcast and this movement have been about learning to cope, learning to accept, and trying to patch up a broken safety net with sheer willpower. But the hard truth is that the child welfare system we deal with every day is running on an outdated motherboard.

We call kinship care "prevention," but how can it be prevention when the family has already been torn apart? We celebrate foster care reductions, but nobody asks where those children went or if the grandparents holding them up received a single dollar of support. System performance measures case processing speeds, but it never measures the quality of childhood.

I realized today that if we keep letting them ask the wrong questions, we will keep getting the wrong policies. I am done trying to fix their old frame. It’s time we build a new one—together.
