Connecting Hearts, Nurturing the Future

Vol. 1, No. 88 | June 30, 2026

Dear Family,

Last week, we opened the door to the "Biological Alarm" with Allison Egidi. We talked about how trauma rewires a child’s motherboard and why catching the "Sleep Wave" is a non-negotiable for a stable home. But what happens when the sun comes up, the coffee is cold, and the sink is full of dishes?

I recently sat down for a heart-to-heart with Matt O’Neill, author of Good Mood Revolution. This wasn't just a talk about "thinking happy thoughts." It was an audit of our internal weather. We realized that being the Invisible CEO means shifting from the heavy weight of sacrifice to the high-frequency power of choice.

The Raw Truth: The 68-Year-Old "Young Mother"

I’ll be the first to admit it—I’ve spent the last four years trying to be a "vision" of a grandmother that wasn't even me. I thought I had to be the sitcom version: the one who never gets tired, never gets grumpy, and always has a warm batch of cookies ready.
But standing at my kitchen table this morning, staring at a mountain of laundry, I realized I was wearing the "Martyr’s Mask." I felt trapped by a life I didn't plan for my late sixties.

Matt hit me with a shock to the system: Sacrifice is a lie.

He reminded me that I don't have to do the dishes. I don't even have to raise these grandchildren. The moment I realized I was staying by choice—not by obligation—something snapped. I realized I’m quirky, I’m messy, and I’m doing this on my own terms. Suddenly, owning that choice made me feel like I was 30 again. The dishes are still there, but the "Martyr" is gone.

Inside the Project: Episode 119

This Week’s Guest: Matt O’Neill | Choice vs. Sacrifice: Weatherproofing Your Joy

In this episode, we dismantle the "I Have To" mindset. Matt explains the 8 Bad Moods and why they are contagious to our grandchildren. We discuss the "Energy Paradox"—how expending energy in joy actually fills your stores—and we walk through a powerful exercise to burn the lies we’ve inherited from generations past.

The Reflection Room

Matt shared that a single thought like "I am unlovable" can persist through three generations of a family. Ask yourself today: What lie am I carrying in my "Mood Motherboard"? Am I passing down the "drizzle" of resentment, or am I brave enough to weatherproof my home with joy? A CEO doesn't lead from a place of emotional chaos; they lead from a place of intentional presence.

The Toolbox: Tactical Moves

  • The "Exposing the Lies" Burn: Fold a paper. On the left, write the lie (e.g., "I am a victim"). On the right, write the truth ("I am a leader"). Read the truth aloud, then literally burn the lie.
  • The "How Can I Enjoy This?" Filter: Before starting a chore you resent, ask: "How can I do this and have fun?" Add a favorite podcast, a piece of chocolate, or a playlist that makes you feel 30 again.
  • The Post-Dinner Postponement: Never try to solve a complex emotional crisis at 9:00 PM. Exhaustion is a mood-altering substance. If you are redlining, set it aside until morning.

You are the keeper of the future, and your joy is the greatest gift you can give them. We are 2.7 million strong. Still nurturing, and still here.

See you in the next boardroom,

Legacy Builders Connecting Hearts, Nurturing the Future Vol. 1, No. 90 | July 14, 2026 Dear Family, Last week, we sat with Katharine Giovanni and did some "Emotional Housekeeping." We talked about putting down the "purple cup" of resentment so our hands are finally free to hold our grandchildren. But this week, I have to get honest with you: it’s hard to hold anyone when your own arms are shaking from exhaustion. I recently sat down with Tamie Gangloff, an eating disorder expert and therapist...

Legacy Builders Connecting Hearts, Nurturing the Future Vol. 1, No. 89 | July 7, 2026 Dear Family, Last week, we sat with Matt O’Neill and dismantled the "Martyr’s Mask." We talked about how shifting from sacrifice to choice can make a 68-year-old grandmother feel like she’s 30 again. But even when we choose this life, there is often a "lead shield" we carry—a heavy, cold weight of resentment toward the people who left us with the wreckage. I recently welcomed back Katharine Giovanni, author...

Legacy Builders Connecting Hearts, Nurturing the Future Vol. 1, No. 87 | June 23, 2026 Dear Family, Last week, we navigated the "High-Stakes Boardroom" of parenting teenagers with Jeanine Mouchawar. We talked about the vital shift from being the "Control Officer" to the "Consultant" as our grandchildren enter those turbulent adolescent years. We learned that the goal isn't to win the argument, but to keep the connection open. But what happens when that connection is sabotaged by the very...
