Hope and Unseen Faith
The joy I witnessed this week is indescribable. To see my precious grandchildren finally embrace their mother after three and a half years—it was a tangible answer to a prayer I’ve been offering daily. That moment, when hope moved from an abstract concept to a deeply felt reality, is something I’ll hold onto forever. It proves that even when the path ahead is obscured, grace is constantly at work.
For so long, the road has been marked by prayer. I’ve sought guidance not just on what to do for the children, but how to simply be for them—a constant, calm presence in the middle of a swirling change. Just as critically, I've prayed for the wisdom to guide their parents, my stepdaughter and stepson-in-laws. It has been my intention to extend the love of Christ to them, treating them with the same patience and unwavering love I would my own child, knowing their own healing journey is paramount to their future.
This week brought that balance into sharp focus. The decision to secure her hotel accommodations, even while managing the financial commitment of raising her children, was difficult. It sits precisely on the line where support meets necessary boundaries. I realized that giving the love of Christ doesn’t always mean sacrificing my own ability to sustain this support system. It means acting with clear, intentional love that respects both her dignity and our stability. It's a challenging, multi-dimensional task, this raising of grandchildren. It requires the heart of a mother, the wisdom of an elder, and the patience of a saint, sometimes all in the same breath.
Yet, as I stand here today, watching the ripple effects of that reunion, a deeper question emerges for me. If their mother can find her way back to them, what will be the course for their father—my step-son-in-law—who has not reached out in over two and a half years? I have held this unseen, unheard aspect of their future in my prayers just as deeply. I wonder if time and faith will eventually mend this chasm as well, or what role, if any, I'm meant to play in holding space for that possibility.
I know the simplest truth: I must put my faith in the things I cannot see. I must trust that every prayer, every difficult boundary set, every moment of guidance I offer to them or to her, is being woven into a greater good. I can rest in the certainty that, even amidst the complexities and the exhaustion, I am doing good in this world. And right now, that is enough.
Moving forward, one hopeful step at a time,
